Scott Garlock

Dr. Scott Garlock recently retired from a long and rewarding career in education. A full professor of music at Ashland University, he also taught at Knox College, the University of Mount Union, and in Northeast Ohio public schools for more than five years. He holds degrees in music education from Kent State University, two master’s degrees in music performance and music history from the University of Akron, and a doctorate from the University of Iowa.
An active performer, Dr. Garlock is a member of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and can often be seen performing in the pit orchestras for productions at Playhouse Square. A dedicated advocate for jazz education, he served as president of both the Ohio chapter of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) and the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio (JECO), the latter of which he helped to establish.
Dr. Garlock recently concluded a decade of administrative service with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, where he served successively as booking agent, social media and marketing manager, managing director, and ultimately as executive director for six years.
