Interim Executive Director Search
CJO Announces Search for Interim Executive Director
For the past six seasons, Scott Garlock has been a first-class Executive Director for the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. His association with the CJO goes back decades, and as a performing musician, as Executive Director, and more recently in his dual role as Director of Educational Outreach, Scott has demonstrated great passion for the CJO's mission. His accomplishments on the CJO's behalf have been remarkable, and his leadership of the organization through the COVID pandemic and other challenges has been stalwart. Scott has earned every iota of the praise and respect he has received from the CJO's Board, musicians, and other stakeholders. However, Scott recently announced his resignation, and after a brief period of transition assistance, his service to the CJO will come to an end.
Today, the CJO announces a Board-led search for an Interim Executive Director, to complete its season currently in progress, ending June 30, 2026. This position will start no later than December 30, 2025, or earlier by agreement with the successful candidate. During the interim period, the CJO will search for its next long-term Executive Director; applicants for Interim Executive Director may request consideration for that position as well. The attached job description contains further information about the position; any further questions or inquiries may be directed to George Carr, chair of the Board's Personnel Committee, at georgecarr@gmail.com or 216-317-3372, or Eric Daniel, President of the Board, at eric.daniel@thompsonhine.com.
The CJO is an arts nonprofit with a mission to increase awareness and appreciation of jazz by engaging the community with original music, exceptional performances, and inspirational educational programming. CJO presents a series of 4-5 large-scale concerts each year, featuring guest artists and a range of themes. Recent guests have included Maria Schneider, Regina Carter, Joe Lovano, Vanessa Rubin, Sean Jones, and Terrell Stafford. In 2021, the CJO made its season series home at the incredible Maltz Performing Arts Center, in University Circle. In addition to the concert series, CJO performs at various venues in Northeast Ohio and the surrounding areas all year, in clubs like the Bop Stop and BLU Jazz+ Akron, at summer festivals, in places of worship, in theaters, and more. The CJO is proud to provide the region with innovative educational outreach, most of which takes place in the local school districts during normal school hours. Most of the CJO’s performers are also master educators who work regularly with students of all ages.
