CJO’s 2016-17 Season
January 28 and 29, 2017
Big Spender! The Cy Coleman Songbook
CJO’s 3rd collaboration with The Musical
Here’s where Broadway meets jazz: the music of composer Cy Coleman (1929-2004). He began his career as a nightclub pianist in Manhattan’s toniest rooms, and jazz musicians loved him – but over more than 40 years his swinging tunes also found a home on the Broadway stage with such hits as Sweet Charity, Barnum, The Will Rogers Follies and City of Angels. The Musical Theater Project and Cleveland Jazz Orchestra are back for their third annual collaboration, recounting Coleman’s amazing story and blowing the house down with “Hey, Look Me Over!,” “Big Spender,” “The Best Is Yet to Come,” “Witchcraft” and more. Meet a man who was a major force in contemporary popular music.
Co-hosted by Bill Rudman and The Musical Theater Project. Featuring the Joe Hunter Trio, Vince Mastro and Treva Offutt. There will be two shows – the evening of Sat. 1/28 at 8p, and a matinee on Sun. 1/29 at 2p. Tickets…

A LETTER FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, KENNY KOBLITZ
As a 25-year fan of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and a member of its board, I am honored and proud to have been chosen to be Executive Director as the CJO begins its 32nd season. Teaming with Artistic Director Paul Ferguson, Booking Agent Dr. Scott Garlock, Personnel Manager George Shernit and our Executive Committee and Board, I promise everyone another exciting season.
Our goals for the short term include; increasing concert revenues, donor gifts and exposure in PlayhouseSquare and the Greater Cleveland area. None of the above can be accomplished without the incredible talents of our orchestra members and the continued support from our loyal donors.
Recently, the CJO received a generous bequest from the estate of the late Irving Fine, a long time fan and adviser to the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. All of us are looking forward to honoring his memory with a presentation to his lovely wife, Gloria.
I look forward to meeting all of you at the Hanna as well as at our appearances at Nightown The Bob Stop,The Music Box and many other venues that we will be playing.
We encourage everyone to introduce friends and relatives to “THE BEST DAMN BIG JAZZ BAND IN THE LAND.”
All the best to all of you,
