FEBRUARY 20: SWING’S THE THING
Put on your zoot suit and your reet pleet… from the mid-1930s through the mid-40s, the sounds of swing echoed in the land – and in Broadway and Hollywood musicals the cats were hep! Our concert features some rare film clips of the Big Bands in film musicals, and as for Broadway, the theater district was only a few blocks away from the cradle of swing on 52nd Street. Jazz exploded on stage and screen, and we’ll take note in songs ranging from “Swinging on a Star” to “Accentuate the Positive.” Guest Vocalist Evelyn Wright joins the CJO for this exciting event at Sandusky’s State Theatre, hosted by the Firelands Symphony Orchestra.

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture grantsOver the past eight years, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra has received nearly $130,000 in support from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, which has helped us to grow our audience in size and diversity, empower a new generation of jazz enthusiasts, and explore multi-faceted programming like our Many Faces of Miles endeavor. This type of funding strengthens our community, and enriches the quality of life in our neighborhoods for people of all ages.  We hope you’ll take just a minute and learn a little more about this extremely important funding partner.

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture is the public funder of arts and culture organizations, programs and events in Cuyahoga County.  Cuyahoga Arts & Culture’s sole funding source is a dedicated cigarette tax levied within Cuyahoga County. Established by voters in 2007, CAC has awarded over 1,200 grants since then, distributing over $125 million in tax dollars to more than 300 organizations based in the County.  Renewal of this funding source will be on the ballot on November 3 for voters to consider.
