Rich Shanklin
Rich has taught at the University of Akron since 1982 and has been a member of the CJO since 1988. He has degrees from Illinois State University and the University of North Texas and has pursued doctoral studies at Indiana University. Though his date book includes gigs with many well-known celebrities (including Johnny Mathis, Wayne Newton, Jack Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope,
Tony Bennett, Rich Little and many others), he is most proud of his performance with Maria Schneider conducting an all-Cleveland orchestra of Gil Evans’ “Porgy & Bess” and of being a part of Bob Brookmeyer’s short tenure with the CJO. Rich has a love of arranging that has translated into several charts for the CJO.
