CJO’s “Youth Jazz Orchestra Camp”
The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra is proud to announce a Youth Jazz Orchestra Camp (June 12th-16th, 2017). The camp will be held at the Brecksville United Methodist Church and will conclude with a 7p student concert with the CJO Sextet at Brecksville’s Gazebo on the Green.
Directed by CJO saxophonist Brad Wagner, the auditioned students chosen for the camp will focus on performing together in a jazz orchestra, along with jazz theory, jazz history, and improvisation classes, and get the opportunity to work with members of the CJO during the week. The first four days of the camp will be from 9a-3:30p with a lunch break; and Friday will be 12-5p with a break for dinner, before the evening concert.
Camp auditions are open to any students in the Northeast Ohio area who have completed 8th grade by the start of the camp, through 2017 graduating seniors. Interested students should fill out the initial application on our website. Applications will be accepted from students who play Alto, Tenor, and Baritone Saxophone, Trombone and Bass Trombone, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, Guitar, and Drums. Information on how to complete electronically submitted auditions will be sent out by email given in application starting February 15, and all audition submissions will be due by March 31. Selected students will be notified by April 15th. Once selected, students will have 15 days, until April 30th, to finalize application and pay the $350 fee, with optional 5 day meal plan also available. Participants will get a free ticket voucher to a 2017-2018 CJO subscription series concert in addition to a Jazz Camp t-shirt.
Students must provide their own transportation, instruments, music stands, mutes, and any other gear needed for practice and performance. Student must also bring a spiral notebook, blank staff paper and pencils.
