Gregory L. Reese
Greg Reese earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Morehouse College in 1975; later that same year, he started his professional career as a Reference and Outreach Librarian with Parma branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. While employed at the Parma branch Reese then went on to earn his Masters degree in Library and Information Science from Case Western Reserve University in 1977. Just a few years later he was named as branch manager where he served until 1985.
After leaving the Cuyahoga County Public Library System in 1985 Reese commenced his employment with the East Cleveland Public Library where he has been employed ever since. Reese has served the last 19 years as Library Director. One of Reese’s greatest accomplishments to date as Library Director includes the period in which he successfully spearheaded a $3.8 million capital campaign to construct an 18,000 square foot addition to the East Cleveland Public Library’s Main Library. The addition includes, among other things, a 250 seat state of the art stage and theatre. In addition to pioneering the “new” East Cleveland Public Library’s Main Branch, Reese has been active throughout his profession and within his community. His many undertakings include being National President of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (1998-2000); presenting on the topic, Building Today . . . For Tomorrow: A Librarian’s Lesson in Fundraising for the American Library Association in March of 2006; being the keynote speaker for the University of Maryland, School of Information Sciences earlier this year; constantly being recognized in Who’s Who Among Black Americans (1992-present); receiving the 2007 Distinguished Non-Profit & Community Service Award from Cleveland State University; and last but certainly not least, being a proud and distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
