Kenny Koblitz, Executive Director
Executive Director Kenny Koblitz is one of the CJO’s original fans and a former member of its Board. For the past 15 years, Kenny has been a consultant to the specialty chemical industry. Prior to consulting, he was a sales executive with several international firms in the industry. He and his wife, Audrey, endow several music scholarships and funds in Greater Cleveland and Chautauqua, New York. Kenny is a graduate of Shaker Heights High School and Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Air Force with the 445th Troop Carrier Wing, a support unit for both the 82nd and 101st Airborn Divisions.
John Murphy, Managing Director
John brings a wealth of knowledge from experience in non-profit staff and board roles. He is a natural fit with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra because of his experience with youth music educational initiatives, fundraising, non-profit organizational leadership and program development.With advanced degrees in business administration and education John brings a wealth of knowledge about operations and organizational administration as well as practical philosophies relating to supporting the development of others. His outgoing style makes him a natural connector and facilitator of collaborations. His personalized approach to life helps him advance those around him like no other.
A native Clevelander, John and his wife Nora have two adult children. John is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys sailing, skiing, and landscaping. His craftsmanship skills help him with home remodeling and furniture making. As a fan of live music across many genres, you can often find John in venues large and small throughout northeast Ohio.

Scott Garlock, Booking, Marketing/Social Media
Dr. Scott Garlock has taught at Mount Union College, Knox College and currently runs the jazz and low brass area at Ashland University. In addition to being a member of CJO, he is also a member of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. He also served as president (and helped create) the state jazz education organization (JECO) and served the same capacity for OH-IAJE before that. Scott was a consultant for the eighth edition of Jazz Styles and Analysis. At the University of Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival, Scott was given a judge’s citation by pianist Benny Green for his “Positive, Spirited Direction.” Scott is a Jupiter Wind artist/clinician who has recorded on over a hundred albums and commercials.
George Shernit, Marketing
Baritone saxophonist George Shernit has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. He also has worked numerous Broadway shows and is featured on records by the CJO, the Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Symphonic Winds. Shernit earned a bachelor of arts degree in music theory and composition, as well as a master’s degree in performance, from Cleveland State University. Shernit has taught at Cleveland State, Case Western Reserve University, Ashland University, University of Akron, and Muskegon University. A charter member of the CJO, he also is the band’s personnel manager. He is a district sales manager with Jupiter Band Instruments.
